Abstract
Z-scan measurements were performed with a CW diode laser at 635 nm to investigate the nonlinear optical properties of Tris(2â²,2-bipyridyl)iron(II) tetrafluoroborate in ethanol at two concentrations. Theoretical fit was carried out to evaluate the nonlinear absorption coefficient (β) and the negative nonlinear refractive index (n2) for the studied complex. Furthermore, the ground-state absorption cross sections (Ïg), the excited-state absorption cross sections (Ïex) and thermo-optic coefficient were also estimated. The investigations show large NLO response, which is predominantly associated with substantial conjugation between the aromatic ring Ï-electron system and d-electron set metal center. The obtained results give a strong indication that Tris(2â²,2-bipyridyl)iron(II) tetrafluoroborate have a potential application in optical domain.
