Abstract
Static contact angle to organic coating surfaces is treated as a strictly localized parameter. Contact angle topographies (CAT) are generated for eight organic coatings, typically applied as top coats to maritime and offshore structures. The distribution of the CAT is found to follow a Rosin-Rammler-Sperling-Bennett (RRSB) distribution. Distribution parameters are estimated and compared to conventional static contact angles. It is suggested to consider RRSB distribution parameters to characterize the wetting behavior of organic top coats.
