Abstract
In this study, an H-beam was used as an example to investigate the mechanical stress-inheriting behavior of a piece of strip metal during the roller straightening process. Basic elastic-plastic mechanics theory was used to analyze the sectional stress-inheriting mode during repeated elastic-plastic bending and its effect on the section's bending properties. In addition, a numerical resolution model of the process of continuous bending of an H-beam was developed and used to study the law of sectional stress inheritance and its effect on the evolution of geometric imperfections. The stress-inheriting behavior of an H-beam during the straightening process was found to have a non-negligible effect on the evolution of residual stresses and geometric imperfections. Stress-inheriting behavior must therefore be considered when analyzing the process of straightening metal structures such as H-beams with large sectional heights.
