Abstract
40Li2O-4MO-55B2O3: 1Nd2O3, where MONb2O5, MoO3 and WO3 glasses were prepared by conventional melt quenching technique; the photoluminescence spectra (excited at 800 nm) of these glasses were recorded at room temperature. These glasses exhibited the emission bands ascribed to 4F3/2 → 4I9/2, 11/2, 13/2 transitions. The radiative transition probability (AT) of emission transitions was characterized as a function of linear combination of Judd-Ofelt (J-O) parameters (Ωλ, λ = 2, 4 and 6) which are used to derive radiative properties of the fluorescent levels. Branching ratio (βR) was enlightened in terms of the spectroscopic ratio (Ω4⁄Ω6)⋅ Interpretation of the data shows that these glasses have the favorable local structure for Nd3+ ions to emit laser transition 4F3/2 → 4I11/2 (∼1060 nm) as Ω6 > Ω4. Spontaneous emission probability (A), the radiative life time (τR) and stimulated emission cross-section (σE) of the present glasses were determined.
