Abstract
We investigated the spectroscopic properties of bismuth/erbium co-doped optical fibre (BEDF) under 830Â nm pumping and observed considerable up-conversion in blue along with the typical near infrared (NIR) emission. The influence of pump power and fibre length upon both up-conversion and NIR emission has been studied and analyzed in details. Amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) at 1420Â nm has been observed in BEDF by 830Â nm pumping. The results demonstrate that the up-conversion has effect upon the emission at 1420Â nm. The relationship between the pump absorption and emission has also been discussed to illuminate the possible energy transition processes in BEDF.
