Abstract
l- Ornithine Mono Hydrochloride (LOMHCl) single crystals were grown successfully by slow evaporation solution technique (SEST). Optically transparent and desirable quality single crystals of LOMHCl having dimensions 30Â ÃÂ 11Â ÃÂ 5Â mm3 were obtained in a span of 16Â days. The grown crystals were subjected to powder X-ray diffraction and the results confirmed its crystal structure as well as structural parameters. Mechanical strain present in the crystal has been calculated by Williamsons-Hall model from XRD data. This positive value of mechanical strain (+3.3Â ÃÂ 10â3) indicate that the grown crystals are having grain boundaries. The presence of functional groups was confirmed by FTIR and Raman analysis. In these spectra, no extra peak is observed that confirms identity of the compound. The CHN analysis also confirmed the percentage wise elemental composition of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen. Optical behavior was examined by UV-vis-NIR spectrophotometer. Various optical parameters like optical band gap, refractive index, reflectance and optical dielectric constant were calculated 4.76Â eV, 1.663 and 2.88 respectively. In order to know its thermal properties TGA/DTA studies were carried out. From etching and micro hardness studies the mechanical properties were analyzed to investigate its suitability for device fabrication. In addition to this, dielectric constant and dielectric loss were measured at different temperatures as a function of frequency over the frequency range 10Â Hz-10 KHz. Plasma energy, Penn gap energy, Fermi gap energy and polarizability were also calculated using Clausius Mossotti relations.
