Abstract
The effect of cerium incorporation on structural and optical properties of CdS film has been investigated. X-ray diffraction patterns of the CdS and CdS:10%Ce films showed the hexagonal wurtzite type polycrystalline structure and the planes (100), (002), (101), (100), (103), (112) are clearly indexed. The crystallinity of the CdS film deteriorated with cerium incorporation. Each Raman spectrum has three raman peaks around 112Â cmâ1, 294Â cmâ1 and 600Â cmâ1. All the peaks were assigned to the Raman modes of CdS. Optical properties were obtained from absorption, transmittance and reflectance spectra of the films. CdS:10%Ce film is found relatively to be highly transparent in the visible and near infra-red regions compared to as-deposited CdS film. Urbach energy value of the CdS film increased with cerium incorporation.
