Abstract

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) based on ultrasonic guided waves is able to assess the health of complex structures, improving maintenance strategies and overall performances of an aircraft. However, wave propagation analysis in composite structures is quite complex for effective damage identification. To alleviate such difficulties, various parametric information can be simultaneously extracted from propagating waves in view of a more effective detection of damage. A multi-parameter approach is indeed able to detect and localize impact induced damages with an increasing probability of detection. Experimental tests and numerical simulations have been used in combination to improve the methodology. The formers are oriented to optimize the single parameter methodology whose effectiveness and issues have been already investigated. The latter are mostly oriented to evaluate the effectiveness of a multi-parameter approach in view of an increasing probability of detection of the system. Finally, the management of large amount of data is optimized developing a graphic user interface aimed to easily post-process measurements and simulation data and quickly investigate several implemented techniques.
