Abstract
The paper presents a geometrical analysis of composite hobs with replaceable sintered carbide cutting plates. The cutting plates are normally arranged on the rake surface of hob blades either perpendicularly to the hob thread helical line or in parallel to the hob axis. The cutting plates are generally flat, have a rectilinear cutting edge profile, and the left- and right-hand cutting edge profile angles are equal. The hob accuracy can be enhanced by making a correction to the cutting edge profile angles and using circular profiles of the cutting edges.
