Abstract
⺠The markup in Canada has risen steadily since the early 1990s. ⺠We examine the effects of a permanent markup shock and sources of its movement. ⺠We separately identify oil price shocks and permanent non-oil markup shocks. ⺠Oil price movements seem to be a key factor that has raised the markup.
