Abstract
► The markup in Canada has risen steadily since the early 1990s. ► We examine the effects of a permanent markup shock and sources of its movement. ► We separately identify oil price shocks and permanent non-oil markup shocks. ► Oil price movements seem to be a key factor that has raised the markup.
