Macroeconomic costs to large scale disruptions of food production: The case of foot- and-mouth disease in the United States

► We investigate shocks to the national food system using GTAP and IMPLAN. ► Losses to USA would be about $11.7 billion, and those to the rest of the world would be $14.1 billion. ► Domestic impact affecting the Mid-Atlantic are nearly $800 million; ► Mid-Atlantic losses in labor income total about $565 million; ► Mid-Atlantic job losses are just over 12,000.
