Abstract
⺠We examine the effects of income inequality on economic growth. ⺠Higher inequality can retard growth in the early stage of economic development. ⺠Higher inequality can encourage growth in a near steady state. ⺠Income inequality can be reduced by higher income tax in a near steady state. ⺠Income inequality cannot be reduced by income tax in the early stage of development.
