Abstract
â¢We study displacement's effect on workers' access to employer-provided benefits.â¢We find long-term losses in access to health- and life insurance, and paid vacation.â¢We find short-term reductions in access to other employer-provided benefits.â¢Lost fringe benefits increase the cost of displacement by 10% per year.
This paper investigates the effect of job displacement on access to employer-provided fringe benefits. We find that displacement is associated with lost access to all seven employer-provided benefits investigated. These losses increase the cost of displacement by 10% per year.
