Abstract
We assess the employment impact of the Lisbon Strategy, examining long-run growth in total, female and old-age employment rates from 1994 to 2009. The Strategy had some impact, especially for old-age workers, but no improvement ensued from its mid-term reassessment.
⺠The labour-market outcomes of the Lisbon Strategy are assessed over a sample of OECD countries. ⺠Panel analysis and difference-in-difference techniques are adopted. ⺠Complying with OECD policy recommendations has a favourable effect on employment. ⺠The Lisbon Strategy yields some additional employment growth, especially for old-age workers. ⺠The Strategy's impact mostly fades out after its 2005 mid-term reassessment.
