Abstract
⺠The German labor market is known to be sclerotic (low labor market flows). ⺠We show that the German labor market is twice as volatile as the US labor market. ⺠We establish a theoretical connection between sclerosis and large volatilities. ⺠We provide evidence for the latter with cross-country data.
