Abstract
⺠I show that female Chief Executive Officers underperform their male counterparts. ⺠Female CEOs generate 0.35% lower monthly risk adjusted shareholders' returns. ⺠This underperformance is significant, of comparable magnitude to the value premium. ⺠I measure risk adjusted performance by cluster sample econometric methods. ⺠Cluster sample methods are more efficient than the traditional portfolio approach.
