Abstract
⺠This is the first study to examine the POUM hypothesis in the UK. ⺠The POUM effect can significantly influence political belief and party support. ⺠Downward mobility more important than upward mobility. ⺠Improved causal interpretation through fixed effects. ⺠Both direct and indirect effects found.
