Abstract
►The effect of relative genetic distance on income difference in China is examined. ►This effect is insignificant when exchanges between Taiwan and China were banned. ►It is significant after the people in Taiwan are allowed to visit the mainland. ►The effect works through the channel of enhanced communications.
