Abstract
This note clarifies the relationship between β-convergence and Ï-convergence in a univariate setting. In such a setting, Ï-convergence implies β-convergence, but β-convergence does not imply Ï-convergence. The results imply that caution should be used for the interpretation of the very concept of β-convergence in empirical work.
