Abstract
⺠We study how labor supply responds to risk in rural El Salvador. ⺠We pay close attention to how productivity differences across genders matter. ⺠Earthquakes in 2001 stunted migration but increased home production for females. ⺠Agricultural productivity shocks increased migration and farm labor for men. ⺠Results indicate that labor supply bends backwards due to subsistence concerns.
