Abstract
► We study the effect of not inducing a correct common prior in a signaling game. ► We provide a theory why outcomes with and without common prior may be different. ► We run an experiment to test the theory. ► We find that for some priors, outcomes are different with and without common prior. ► We estimate a learning model that accounts for the experimental data.
