Abstract
► In trust game experiments higher fall-back payoffs after no-trust reduce cooperation. ► Cooperation is also less likely in one shot trust games than in infinite games. ► Infinite play stimulates subjects to choose the trust game with lower fall backs. ► The findings thus show that explicit incentives affect relational contracting. ► Subjects choose weak explicit incentives to facilitate implicit agreements.
