► I investigate optimal incentive contracts when some workers are reciprocal. ► Employers induce reciprocity by offering weak incentives and a high base salary. ► Expected total compensation can therefore be higher or lower. ► Employers can induce reciprocity and simultaneously screen reciprocal workers. ► They do so by offering strong incentives and a high base salary.
