► Childcare in Ireland has undergone a process of neoliberalisation since 2000. ► Centre-based services have been prioritised in the marketisation of this new sector. ► A discourse of 'sustainability' was used to justify the respatialisation process. ► This new form of delivery has introduced further economic instability into the sector.
