Abstract
► We are the first to assess the effectiveness of LED strategies using quantitative methods in Mexico. ► We use a purpose-built database of 898 municipalities in Mexico, built with the help of local experts. ► We show that engaging in LED leads to greater local development. ► We show that specific LED criteria have had the greatest impact on development.
