Abstract
⺠Distance costs determine product line breadth and overlap. ⺠Product lines are broader and more overlapped if distance costs are low or high. ⺠Consumers generally benefit and firms lose from lower distance costs. ⺠Consumers lose if lower distance costs leads to narrower product lines.
