Abstract
Recent empirical work sheds some light on the importance, form and consequences of complementarities between information and communication technology (ICT) and organizational design. We conclude from this research that (1) complementarities between organization and ICT maybe so strong that absent organizational changes, ICT may have a negligible effect on productivity; (2) different types of ICT require different changes in organizational design; (3) the evidence also suggests that changes in organization enhance the impact of ICT on wage inequality.
