Abstract
This paper shows that private provision of service hours is inefficiently low from a social point of view. We study how asymmetric distributions of consumers' ideal service time impact on this market failure. We also demonstrate how non-uniform distributions of consumers' ideal service time may generate industry configurations where service providers maintain unequal business hours.
