► The common practice of granting traditional stock options is suboptimal. ► Firms are better off linking incentive pay to average stock prices. ► Asian stock options are more cost effective than traditional stock options. ► Asian stock options also provide stronger incentives to increase stock price. ► The benefit of averaging is achieved with little impact on risk incentives.
