Abstract
⺠We test the effect of electoral rules and forms of government on agricultural policy. ⺠We use both cross-sectional and panel data estimators. ⺠Proportional and presidential democracies give more public support to agriculture. ⺠The constitutional effect is stronger for import sectors and staple food crops. ⺠The effects are independent from the ideology orientation of governments.
