Abstract
⺠I introduce adversarial and inquisitorial systems in a financial contracting model. ⺠Data show evidence collection is more lawyer-intensive in the former. ⺠Theory consistent with data if lawyers are more productive than judges. ⺠Or if investors are wealthier than entrepreneurs. ⺠Manipulation of evidence by lawyers has an ambiguous impact on finance.
