Abstract

Nanoscopic CdS–TiO2 particles supported on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are prepared via a sol–gel method. TEM, BET, XPS and UV–vis absorption results confirm that TiO2 and CdS nanoparticles having relatively small particle size and homogeneous structure are coated on the sidewall of MWCNTs. The results of the toluene degradation show that the presence of MWCNTs and CdS nanoparticles plays a significant role in improving the photocatalytic performance. Under the irradiation UV light at the wavelength of 254 nm, the removal efficiency of toluene decomposition on CdS–TiO2/MWCNT catalysts reached 55.3%.
