Abstract
Based on the global data on climate change since the isotopic stage 5, it is possible to correlate the sea levels variations with the occupation phases of the Rabat-Témara caves by prehistoric men. High sea levels occur during warm climate phases and then the level of the ocean is comparable to the current level: The caves are therefore a few hundred meters from the Atlantic shoreline. Low sea levels occur during cool climate phases. In the region of Rabat-Témara, the bathymetry data indicates that an ocean level drop of 120Â m recedes the shoreline more than 20Â km to the West. During these phases, the caves were much farther from the ocean than today. This leads us to question the influence that these climatic and very important landscape variations have had on the prehistoric men behaviors and cultures.
