Abstract

•40% of North Korean (NK) refugees in the survey had needed care while in North Korea but had not been able to get one.•After arriving in South Korea, NK refugees reported frequent use of healthcare services but also noted several barriers.•A tailored approach needs to be taken to help those with limited understanding about the South Korean healthcare system.
