Hierarchical ZSM-5 containing mesoporous silica–aluminas were prepared by one pot sol–gel method using malic acid. Their properties for the catalytic cracking of vacuum gas oil (VGO) were estimated using a Curie point pyrolyzer, where the novel and very simple estimation method for the catalytic cracking of VGO was proposed. Prepared catalysts showed the higher activity than single ZSM-5. When the content of aluminum species increased in the catalysts, not only the conversion of VGO but also yields of gasoline increased compared with that of single ZSM-5. Prepared catalysts with mesopore formed larger amounts of multi-branched products with high octane numbers.
