Abstract
:We formulate a model of traffic assignment based on stochastic equilibrium where the route choice component embodies inertia to change. A path-based algorithm based on the method of successive averages is provided. The theory is illustrated by examples relating to a two-link and the Nguyen-Dupuis network. Results show that, for each OD pair, as the inertia effect increases in magnitude, the standard deviation of path flows increases while the total travel time expenditure decreases.
