Abstract
Environmental communication represents the set of special codes and practices typical of different scientific domains and even of different symbolic systems, thus contributing to the formation of new transdisciplinary paradigm of communication, in which the environmental rhetoric and discourse play a vital role. The number of papers devoted to the analysis of rhetorical strategies within the framework of environmental communication in English and Latvian is rather limited. As a contribution to this question, the author provides the analysis of diverse nature of pathos and its manifestations in the texts on the issues of environment, urban planning, sustainable development, and ecology.
