Abstract

Teaching cross-cultural communication is in the centre of second language learning. Universal characteristics and national peculiarities of language and cultural concepts are viewed in the article as an important means of forming professional competence of future specialists. It is proved that â¿¿heroâ¿¿ concept is one of the basic concepts in both English and Russian languages. â¿¿Heroâ¿¿ concept is a part of heroic paradigm, an open complex system reflecting social, economical, ideological and cultural levels of a concrete society. The important role of English in Russian heroic paradigm development is stated. The authors suppose that comparative study of heroic paradigm is intended to cover major issues pertaining to cross-cultural communication. Heroic paradigm teaching is based on mythological, historical, cultural examples, illustrations from fiction to reveal similarities and differences of its realization in English and Russian.
