Abstract

Continuous improvement (CI) helps to further develop processes based on existing standards. An important element of target oriented CI is coaching by managers to help employees who are implementing improvement measures. Up to now little is known about actual success factors for good and supportive coaching in CI. Also no measurement model exists yet which helps to actually distinguish good leaders in coaching during CI. Therefore the target of this paper lies in the development of a measurement model for coaching success. For that purpose 77 success factors from 14 authors and research groups are analyzed; furthermore a CI target state rating system is developed to compare different target states with each other to lay a measurement base line for the coaching measurement. The measurement itself is executed with the help of a competency measurement of the managers and process improvers participating within the CI. By comparing the competencies which are related to coaching before and after continuous improvement activities coaching success can consequently be measured.
