Abstract

Graphene nanosheets prepared from graphite via the modified Hummers method were decorated with silver nanoparticles (AgG). The obtained AgG was used to design a silver/graphene-modified carbon-paste electrode (AgGCPE). The prepared material was characterized by using TEM, SEM, UV-vis, Raman, XPS, and FT-IR. The electrochemical behavior of the AgGCPE Electrode was investigated by studying the behavior of the ferrocyanide redox couple on its surface by using cyclic voltammetry (CV). The AgGCPE showed voltammetric responses with a high level of sensitivity and a low background compared to the carbon paste electrode. The analytical applicability of the newly prepared electrodes was demonstrated for the methimazole determination. The electrochemical behavior at the surface of the developed electrodes was evaluated using cyclic voltammetry, amperometry, and square wave voltammetry. Two calibration curves were obtained using amperometry and square wave voltammetry. Square wave voltammetric determination showed a better calibration curve with a R2 = 0.999 and 1-80 µM dynamic range.
