Abstract

The Schiff base analogue (E)-2-(1-(2-phenyl hydrazono)ethyl)naphtholen-1-ol was synthesized by condensation reaction of 2-acetyl-1-hydroxynaphthol and phenylhydrazine hydrochloride in the presence of sodium acetate in ethyl alcohol under reflux conditions. The product obtained was characterized by 1H NMR, MS and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system with space group C2/c and unit cell parameters, a = 17.69(3) Å, b = 7.885(15) Å, c = 21.97(5) Å and β = 108.36(3)° and Z = 8. The molecular structure exhibits intra-molecular hydrogen bonds C—H…N, O—H…N and C— H…π, π- π intermolecular interactions.
