Abstract

•It is the first time that bamboo sawdust and waste tire were used for microwave-assisted catalytic fast co-pyrolysis.•The proprotion of aromatics was enhanced in the co-pyrolysis process.•Pyrolysis temperature, catalyst to feed ratio and bamboo sawdust to tire ratio have great effects on bio-oil production.

This study investigated microwave-assisted catalytic fast co-pyrolysis of waste tires and bamboo sawdusts for bio-oil production with HZSM-5 as the catalyst. Effects of pyrolysis temperature, catalyst to feed ratio, bamboo sawdust to watse tire ratio on bio-oil production was investigated. Results showed that the optimal co-pyrolysis temperature was 550 °C, which provides the maximum bio-oil yield and lowest proportion of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Watse tires as the hydrogen donor had a significant promotion on the production of bio-oil and aromatic hydrocarbons. The maximum yield of aromatic hydrocarbons were obtained when the optimal bamboo sawdust to waste tire ratio was 1:1.
