Abstract
A preconcentration procedure with solid phase extraction was developed to determine lead in samples of chicken feed by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). The procedure involved Pb(II) sorption onto a mini-column packed with Moringa oleÃfera husks. The flow and chemical variables of the proposed system were optimized through multivariate design. The limit of detection for lead was 1.66 μg Lâ 1 (0.27 μg gâ 1) and the precision calculated on the basis of repeatability was below 1.3%. The develop method was successfully applied to spiked chicken feed samples, and accuracy was assessed through analysis of a certified reference material for rice flour (IRMM-804) and recovery tests, with recovery ranging from 83 to 144%.
