Abstract
A trans-chelating ligand based on two 2-ethynyl-pyridine arms attached to a benzene ring was incorporated into DNA single strands by means of solid phase phosphoramidite synthesis to provide a tetradentate N4 coordination environment for metal cations favoring a square-planar geometry inside the DNA double helix. The binding of Cu(II) cations was investigated and an increase in the DNA melting temperature was observed upon metal binding.87
