Abstract
Microwave assisted homogeneous and heterogeneous catalytic carbonylation reactions are reviewed. The development of microwave reactors suitable to perform reactions under gas pressure led to significant advances in this research area, for which the main sources of carbon monoxide are CO gas and metal carbonyl complexes.
