Abstract
By solid-state reaction in closed ampoules of SrO, Zn, and S, SrZnSO is possible to obtain. In its hexagonal, polar, non-centrosymmetric crystal structure, Zn is coordinated by three sulfur and one oxygen atoms and forms trigonal layers which are separated by strontium. The optical band-gap of SrZnSO is about 3.1Â eV and the crystal symmetry allows for non-linear optic activity.266
