Abstract
New 3-O-branched 1, 6-anhydro glucopyranose di- and trisaccharide monomers were synthesized and polymerized for the first time. Although the disaccharide monomers gave 3-O-glucose or mannose branched polysaccharides in moderate yields, the trisaccharide monomer 8 gave no polymer. The polymerizability of the 3-O-branched monomers was lower than that of 4-O-branched monomers reported previously, probably due to the steric hindrance of the branched bulky mono and disaccharide units at the 3-O position in 1, 6-anhydro glucopyranose.157
