Abstract

ATR-IR measurements were conducted during the adsorption of 2′-hydroxyacetophenone and benzaldehyde from a liquid solution onto a thin MgO film at room temperature. Analysis of the results obtained by multivariate modeling revealed the presence of adsorbed surface species, which are similar in nature to the species observed during the adsorption of the same molecules on MgO from the gas phase. In particular, both 2′-hydroxyacetophenone and benzaldehyde adsorb intact from the liquid phase onto the MgO surface at room temperature without any significant changes observed in the main functional groups or the aromaticity of their rings.
