Abstract
⺠Low temperature chars yield high amounts of pyrogenic water-soluble organic matter (Py-WSOM). ⺠FTIR analysis of Py-WSOM shows low temperature fragmentation/depolymerization of plant polymers. ⺠The half life of Py-DOC, lignin and free biomarkers is 30-40 d, ca. 13-14 d and 3-4 d. ⺠Wildfire/biomass combustion may be an important source of labile (Py-WSOM) in aquatic systems.
