Abstract
⺠Bacteriohopanepolyol (BHP) content and distributions in a stratified cyanobacterial mat examined. ⺠Results indicate key autotrophic Cyanobacteria as minor source for BHPs. ⺠C-2 methylated BHPs only in a deep layer where heterotrophic bacteria predominate. ⺠BHP maximum correlates with the redoxcline in the mat.
